Jutland Reserve Ecological Restoration Plan
This restoration plan was produced by Uru Whakaaro for Auckland Council and Restoring Takarunga Hauraki. Jutland Reserve is located in Hauraki, on Te Hau Kapua/ Devonport Peninsula in Tāmaki Makaurau, and is part of the Oneoneroa and Ngātaringa Bay area. The area not only encompasses important terrestrial biodiversity such as coastal pōhutukawa-pūriri-broadleaf forest but also intertidal habitats such as mānawa forest, salt marsh and shell banks. Restoration of the reserve offers an opportunity to enhance cultural, social, recreational and aesthetic values, and to positively influence biodiversity and community. We acknowledge Ngāti Paoa & Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as mana whenua, and follow the practises aligned with the values applied by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei elsewhere across Tāmaki Makaurau.
The plan takes a holistic restoration approach acknowledging interdependent ecosystems and the importance of maintaining connectivity with the surrounding landscape to ensure healthy and regenerative ecosystems. It is an important ecological stepping stone that helps to connect motu (the islands) of Tikapa Moana o Hauraki, peninsulas and open sanctuaries on the Tāmaki Makaurau North/East coast.
Restoring Takarunga Hauraki (RTH) is currently active in the restoration of the reserve. RTH are a community-led ecological restoration and outdoor learning programme for Takarunga Hauraki (Devonport Peninsula).
