Te Aka Kōtuia: Plant Division Workshop
Join us for this hands-on workshop at Maungawhau Nursery where we will cover propagation by plant division. We will learn about a range of species that can be propagated for volcanic landscapes and other environments.
This workshop is the second in the 2025 series, held by Te Aka Kōtuia, set up to support our kaitiaki and community nurseries across Tāmaki Makaurau.
This workshop is being held at Maungawhau Nursery (tended by Friends of Maungawhau) and is open to all nursery practitioners and/or aspiring nurseries.

Te Aka Kōtuia: Annual Nurseries Hui 2025
Join us for the annual Te Aka Kōtuia Nurseries Hui, open to all nurseries across the Auckland region. This hui is for all people who grow native plants, including kaitiaki, community, private backyards and school nurseries. Aspiring nurseries and volunteers are welcome.
We will be hosted at Kaipātiki Project EcoHub, where they have their own community native plant nursery nestled alongside the beautiful ngahere of Eskdale Reserve. The hui will be facilitated by Te Aka Kōtuia, set up to support our kaitiaki and community nurseries across Tāmaki Makaurau.
The morning session will include whakawhanaungatanga and getting to know who is working in this space, and the afternoon session will include hands-on workshops in the nursery.
This event is whānau/tamariki friendly and kai is provided. We are also happy to contribute to transport costs if that is a barrier.

Berm Day Out! | EcoFest
Join us for the big Berm Day Out, where we will visit a number of beautiful examples of berm gardens in central Tāmaki. We’ll learn about native, edible as well as rongoā planting for berms.
Bring your bicycle and bike with us from berm to berm, or carpool with others. We’ll end back at the first berm location for drinks and snacks.

2024 Motutapu Volunteer Planting Day - September
Ngai Tai ki Tāmaki is pleased to announce that the fourth and final planting day on September 28th is now open for registrations!
These days are a great way to contribute to the restoration of Motutapu as a sanctuary for taonga species. All ages are welcome (though please note, if you bring your children, you take full responsibility for their supervision) and no experience is required - and as always, transport on the Explore boats and lunch are on us.

Te Aka Kōtuia Workshop - "Prevention Through Design"
Join us for this biosecurity workshop at Kaipātiki Project. We will be covering all the key aspects of good biosecurity practice including prevention through design, monitoring, auditing & task planning.
This workshop is being held at Kaipātiki Project and is for nursery practitioners and/or aspiring nurseries. The workshop will use the host nursery (Kaipātiki Project) as an example for the workshop but there are spaces open to all nursery practitioners/aspiring nurseries.

Te Aka Kōtuia Workshop - "Laying Down the Kaupapa"
Join us for the first of our Te Aka Kōtuia Workshop series where we will cover laying down the kaupapa of your nursery, infrastructure planning & quality control, and whakapapa of materials.
This workshop is being held at Kaipātiki Project and is for nursery practitioners and/or aspiring nurseries. The workshop will use the host nursery (Kaipātiki Project) as an example for the workshop but there are spaces open to all nursery practitioners/aspiring nurseries.

Te Aka Kōtuia Pop-up Nursery - Te Ara Tukutuku
Uru Whakaaro & Te Aka Kōtuia will be hosting a pop-up nursery at Te Ara Tukutuku alongside Pourewa Nursery, Kaipātiki Project and Ngau-te-ringaringa Nursery on the 3rd of August.
Come along with friends or whānau, learn how to identify native plants, and chat over the potting table with nursery practitioners about native plants, nurseries and how their work contributes to the healing of Te Waitematā.
