Uru Whakaaro developed the Ōkahu Inlet Ecological Restoration Plan for Hōkai Nuku to support the return of Ōkahu Inlet to a self-regenerating indigenous ecosystem. The restoration methodologies, planting, weed management, animal pest management and environmental monitoring were outlined within the guiding principles of the maramataka. The Ōkahu Restoration Plan is significant as it covers the traditional occupation area around Ōkahu Inlet including the Pā of Te Hēmara Tauhia and Kāinga Tawhito o Ngā Tūpuna.
