Manukapua & Ōkahukura is culturally & spiritually significant to Ngāti Whātua as the landing place of Te Māhūhū-ki-te-rangi waka. The area provides important habitat for many taonga species including Kuaka, Tara iti, Karahu, Pūpū, Tuangi and Remuremu. The aim of kaitiaki is to support naturally regenerating ecosystems alongside education and training that involves long-term planning for habitat restoration where taonga species can thrive. Uru Whakaaro provided a restoration plan and sustainable management guide for kaitiaki of Taporapora, in Kaipara. This plan supports ongoing collaborative management and partnership between Te Uri o Hau & Tāporapora community.
