Jutland Reserve Ecological Restoration Plan

Jutland Reserve, on Te Hau Kapua/ Devonport Peninsula in Tāmaki Makaurau, is part of the Oneoneroa and Ngātaringa Bay area. The area holds important coastal pōhutukawa-pūriri-broadleaf forest as well as intertidal habitats such as mānawa forest, salt marsh and shell banks. Restoration of this coastline offers an opportunity to enhance cultural, social, recreational and aesthetic values, and to positively influence biodiversity and community. We acknowledge Ngāti Paoa & Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei  as mana whenua, and follow the practises aligned with the values applied by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei elsewhere across Tāmaki Makaurau.

The plan takes a holistic restoration approach acknowledging interdependent ecosystems and the importance of maintaining connectivity with the surrounding landscape to ensure healthy and regenerative ecosystems. It is an important ecological stepping stone that helps to connect motu (the islands) of Tikapa Moana o Hauraki, peninsulas and open sanctuaries on the Tāmaki Makaurau North/East coast.

This plan was produced for Auckland Council and Restoring Takarunga Hauraki who are currently active in the area. RTH are a community-led ecological restoration and outdoor learning programme for Takarunga Hauraki (Devonport Peninsula).
