Te Henga Kāinga Whakahirahira

Design for Te Henga Kāinga Whakahirahira is underway for Te Kawerau a Maki including a new marae and papakāinga in Te Henga, Waitākere Ranges (ancestral home lands of Kawerau a Maki). This will be the first formal marae since the lands at Waiti (Te Henga) were alienated in the mid-twentieth century. It will be an eco-marae focused on sustainability and working with te taiao.

Te Kawerau a Maki are working with Monk Mackenzie and Uru Whakaaro to develop the marae design and ngahere elements.
